Most Everywhere, January 2011 — Apparently it is. The power of green tea lies in the fact that it is rich in a special and powerful kind of plant-derived antioxidant called catechin polyphenols.

Used for centuries, and dating back to the ancient Chinese cultures, green tea is believed to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in the body, with the only possible side effect being insomnia, due to the caffeine within the plant. It has also been effective in lowering LDL (bad) cholesterol, and to hinder blood clot formation, the leading cause of heart attack and stroke.

Why is it different from other teas? It’s the way green tea is processed. Green tea leaves are steamed, which holds the antioxidant properties within. In other tea preparations, these valuable composites are converted into other compounds that in their altered states are not as effective in promoting good health.

Recent studies have shown that consuming green tea carries other positives, such as helping dieters by burning more calories, and preventing food poisoning (due to its ability to fight bacteria,) as well as aiding in the fight against various types of cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, high cholesterol, cardiovascular problems, infection and impaired immune function.
